Mercia School sending students home

The school sent a text message to parents earlier today. It read: “Due to worsening weather and travel conditions, we have taken the decision to close the school. Year 11 will leave site at 12:15pm. Year 7 and Year 10 will leave at 12:45pm. Year 8 and Year 9 will leave at 1:15pm.

“The staggered closure is to ensure that all pupils and staff can leave school safely and to avoid major traffic congestion given the unique school site.”

Woodhead Pass closed by National Highways

National Highways revealed in a statement: “Drivers in Greater Manchester, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire are advised that the A628 will be closed due to heavy snowfall. National Highways will shut the A628 Woodhead Pass at 12pm as snow continues to fall across the region.

“The road will be closed between the gates from Flouch roundabout near Penistone and east of the junction with the A6024 near Woodhead Reservoir. A severe weather alert for snow in the Midlands and north of England was issued for today (Thursday 9 March) and National Highways is asking everyone travelling in these areas to consider if their journey is essential and to go prepared.”

Sheffield City Council reveals more closing schools

Sheffield City Council’s Twitter feed has revealed two more schools will be closing today. Shooters Grove will be closing at 1pm, Phillimore Community Primary School will be closing at 1pm.

Arbourthorne Community Primary School to close

Arbourthorne Community Primary School has revealed it has closed in a statement shared through Sheffield City Council. The school closed to all pupils at 12pm.

Primary School closing at 1pm

Westways Primary School in Crookes is closing at 1pm today. In a post to social media the school thanked parents for their “support and understanding in these unpredictable circumstances”.
