Sheffield braced for 'icy rain' and potential for snow tomorrow as polar blast forecast for UK

The Met Office has warned of a polar blast that will be hitting the UK, causing icy rain showers and the potential for snow in South Yorkshire.

As much as 4 inches of rainfall is predicted to fall in parts of the UK, with showers and temperatures that feel as low as -2C taking hold in Sheffield in the second half of this week.

Showers are forecast for this afternoon and temperatures are set to plummet over the course of the afternoon and evening, with lows of 3C.

And there is potential for snow showers on Thursday morning, with lows of 2C but forecasters saying it will feel like -2C.

The Met Office issued warnings for wind, ice and rain in South Yorkshire this morning (December 11), with forecasters saying that the bad weather could cause disruption for people on the roads.

Heavy rain is then forecast up until Christmas.
