Sheffield weather: Latest on likelihood of snow amid UK-wide cold snap
Early predictions of snow in Sheffield have now been replaced by sleet as a cold snap takes hold of the UK.
Temperatures have dropped sharply after an unseasonably mild start to November and a yellow health alert for cold weather is in place across Yorkshire & The Humber until Friday.
And, after two days of pelting rain on Friday and Saturday brought on by Storm Claudia, Sheffield can expected another rainy day today (November 18) and Wednesday, coupled with biting cold.
Will there be snow in Sheffield this week? Weather forecast for Nov 18-24
Forecasters have revised forecasts of snow in the early hours of Wednesday (November 19) in Sheffield.

The Met Office is now expecting sleet to sweep in between 1am and 5am, brought on by a snow across the Peak District mixing with rain and temperatures as low as 2C overnight.
Sheffield can expect another day of heavy rain between 11am and 3pm today (Tuesday, November 18) and a persistent drizzle into the evening.
Then, from midnight until 4am on Wednesday, The Met Office forecasts a high chance of sleet pushing in from the Peak District.

The sleet is likely to clear up by 6am followed by a largely dry and cloud Wednesday but much chillier than in recent days, dropping to highs of 4C and as low as 0C overnight into Thursday.
The Met Office has not issued any weather warnings for snow or ice in South Yorkshire at time of writing, although there are yellow warnings for cold weather in Scotland.
Thursday and Friday will remain cold and dry, with a good chance of sunshine on Friday.
Sadly, it looks like another drizzly but mild weekend in Sheffield after that, with highs of 8C and light rain across both days.
Yellow health warning for cold weather
England's yellow cold health alerts, issued by the UK Health Security Agency, warn of the potential for "significant impacts" across health and social care services. They are in place from 8am on Monday to 8am on Friday.
The RAC also warns of increased breakdowns on roads due to slippery roads from freezing temperatures and fallen leaves.
What should I do during the cold weather warning?
The Met Office and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) says the cold weather would be “disruptive” for many - but the chance of snow settling is now unlikely.
The Met Office’s guidance on the cold weather warnings is:
- There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
- There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off
- There is a slight chance that bus and train services may be delayed or cancelled, with some road closures and longer journey times
- A small chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
- There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.
