FLOOD ALERT: Sheffield braced for downpours and flooding after weather warning

Flooding is expected in places as Sheffield is battered by heavy rain today, with a weather warning in place.

The Met Office has issued a ‘yellow warning’ for rain, which covers Sheffield and is in place until midday today, Thursday, June 18.

It says that flooding of a few homes and businesses is ‘likely’, bus and train services will ‘probably’ be affected and car journeys are expected to take longer. Some interruption to power supplies and other services is also expected.

Heavy rain is forecast in Sheffield until around 4pm today, followed by a couple of hours of lighter rain, with temperatures expected to peak at 15C.

There is only a small chance of further rain after 7pm, with the city set for a cloudy but dry evening.

More rain is expected during the morning and early afternoon tomorrow, Friday, June 19, with a maximum temperature of 18C forecast.
