In a statement posted on their Facebook page, the pub's manager Felicity Bell said they will remain closed as the drying out process may take several weeks, even though they were making good progress clearing the building.

"Unfortunately, following visits from our building team and architects I am sorry to say that we will be closed until some time in the new year.

"The damage caused due to the flooding is extensive and despite the fact we are making good progress clearing the building, the drying out process alone may take several weeks."

They said although the water level has since receded, everything in the property needs completely gutting, and the pub needs to be totally refurbished with new furniture and equipment.

"We are trying to contact as many people as possible who are booked in with us over the next few weeks but my most sincere apologies if we haven't managed to contact you personally.

"There are literally hundreds of bookings so we are doing the best we can and would ask for your understanding at this difficult time."

Ms Bell said despite the unfortunate event, many other businesses have come forward and showed their support by offering her team employment.

"My lovely team have been amazing and lots of businesses in the area including the Earl of Strafford, and the Bessacarr and Edenthorpe Toby Carverys to name just a couple have offered the team employment which is such a relief for them over this expensive time of the year.

"We will keep you all updated over the coming weeks with our progress and look forward more than anything to reopening our doors in the new year and welcoming you all back in."

It has been reported that a total of seven flood warnings remain in place in Doncaster this weekend, as residents in Bentley and Fishlake continue to try and cope with the devastating impact of the floods.

Doncaster Council estimate that 970 homes and businesses have been affected by the floods since the torrential rain started on November 7.
