Barnsley gritters out tonight as low temperatures expected

Barnsley Council’s highways department made the announcement on social media this afternoon, with temperatures expected to drop to three degrees overnight, according to the Met Office.

It’s expected to stay chilly into tomorrow with highs of just five degrees expected in the afternoon.

And temperatures in the town are expected to stay in single figures for the rest of the week. Thursday is set to be the warmest day with nine degrees expected in the early evening, though the day itself is predicted to be overcast.

Gritting crews will be on standby 24/7 until the end of March ready to treat 321 miles of roads on the town’s main gritting routes. The council will prioritise gritting ‘primary routes’ during this time. You can check primary routes and see if your area is covered by Barnsley council here.
