WEATHER ALERT: More snow warnings issued for Sheffield for today, tomorrow and Thursday

Gritters out across Sheffield as more snow forecastSome of the heavy snow showers that are sweeping across the region today could be accompanied by lighting, forecasters warn.

The Met Office has also this morning issued fresh warnings for wintry weather for the next few days.

The latest weather warning is in effect between 6pm tomorrow evening and 9am on Thursday.

The Met Office warning states: "Snow showers are expected during Wednesday evening before a spell of more persistent and possibly heavy snow develops in places during Wednesday night.

"Any persistent snow is most likely to clear east before dawn on Thursday but further snow showers are likely to follow.

"Travel delays are possible on roads with a risk that some vehicles and passengers could become stranded.

"Delays or cancellations are possible to rail and air travel. Some rural communities could become cut off.

"Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone, may be affected."

The chief forecaster added there could be around three inches of snow in some places and up to eight inches over higher ground.
