Nick Beecroft, of Norton Lees, was diagnosed with testicular cancer after going to the doctors on his 25th birthday back in May.

But despite receiving the devastating news, his pals rallied round and said they’d be with him ‘no matter what’.

His cousin and close friend Alex Eason, 25, was one of the masterminds behind the wacky fundraiser which involved over 30 lads facing the sheers.

“We were all shocked at the diagnosis, it took us completely by surprise,” Alex said.

“We decided that Nick wasn’t going to face this alone and as a laugh, a couple of us said we’d shave our hair off as Nick would start chemotherapy.

“But we thought we should turn it into a proper fundraiser and do it properly raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.”

As word got out that Alex was about to don a shaven head, more people said they would get their hair completely cut off.

“It was a bit mental really, more and more people wanted to get involved we had 34 lads turn up - some of them we’d not heard from in a while and they were more than willing.”

But an explanation was in order after the lads strolled into the Abbeydale Picturehouse for a pint with new hairdos.

“We must’ve looked like a right bunch of nutters,” Alex said.

The woman behind the bar looked a bit taken aback as this huge group of skin heads walked in.

“It must have been quite intimidating, we had to explain what the matching haircuts were all about!”

Some of the group with slightly longer hair donated their locks to the Little Princess Trust who make wigs for children who’ve lost their hair through cancer treatment.

The group’s efforts completely smashed the fundraising target they initially set.

Alex said: “It was crazy - we initially set a target of £1,000 but we got that in the first hour.

“Nick was hugely taken aback by the support he’s received and the money we’ve managed to raise.”

Nearly £7,800 has been raised on the Nick Beecroft’s Teenage Cancer Trust Barber shop page.

The group have been raising money for the for the trust as Nick spends time in a specialist ward for people aged 16 to 25.
