CHATSWORTH’S Horse Trials - which were due to start tomorrow - have been cancelled after waterlogged ground put paid to the event.

The horse trials were due to attract hundreds of riders and stallholders, but heavy rain overnight meant organisers have been forced to call the competition off today.

In a statement, the organisers said: “With huge regret, Chatsworth has been abandoned.

“There has been 22ml of rain in six hours, and the ground is totally waterlogged.

“Even with good weather from now on, the footings would be unsafe. The stables are flooded.”

Advance ticket holders will be contacted within 10 days to arrange a refund.
