A WATER main burst caused disruption for shoppers at Rotherham’s Parkgate Retail World.
Workmen were called out to Rotherham Road, Parkgate, in the early hours of Christmas Eve and attempted to fix the 10-inch main before shops opened.
But work proved more difficult than first thought.
A Rotherham Council spokesman said: “Yorkshire Water had been undertaking excavation works since the early hours of the morning and managed to keep traffic flowing in both directions to begin with.
“Unfortunately, due to the extent of the burst, two-way temporary traffic lights were needed to continue excavation and repair works.
“The lights were manually-controlled to try to aid traffic flows and every effort was made to have the burst repaired by the end of the day.”
