Water mains work enters next phase

A MASSIVE scheme to upgrade Rotherham's water mains is to move into its second phase.

Contractors are already working on the 4.1 million project in the Clifton area of the town. Now the scheme is to be extended to the Broom and Moorgate areas.

This Thursday, October 25, project managers will be at Whiston Junior and Infant School on Saville Road in Whiston from 4.30pm to 7pm to talk to residents about the latest work.

Mains which are beyond repair are being replaced with plastic pipes, while others are either being relined or cleaned.

Project manager Richard Long said: “Unfortunately we can't promise there will be no disruption, as any project like this still means digging holes to reach the underground mains.

“We will be doing all we can to keep inconvenience to a minimum. Some people’s water supplies may also be affected for a short period, although they will receive notification by card 48 hours in advance.”

He said: “Residents should check IDs of anyone who calls at the door – they have phone numbers on the back.”
