Water back on at graveyard

THE water is back on at a Sheffield Council cemetery after a meter had to be repaired.

Visitors to Norton Cemetery on Derbyshire Lane complained after being unable to find water to use for their floral tributes and plants.

Graham Morton, aged 71, whose mother Blanche is buried in the cemetery, travelled from Stoke on Trent to visit her grave. “I drove for an hour and three quarters especially to tidy her grave and put some plants in but there was no water,” he said. “I wanted to make it look respectable and keep it looking nice.”

A Sheffield Council spokeswoman said: “The water had to be turned off due to a cracked meter which, despite a temporary repair, was still leaking. We spoke to the lodge tenant who said he had been placing water buckets within the cemetery for visitors. The meter has been replaced and the water is back on.”
