The Owls threw everything they had at Nigel Clough's side but after Jackson Irvine had cancelled out Ross Wallace's opener, Burton's backs-to-the-wall defending stood firm.

Carlos Carvalhal said afterwards: “It is not easy to create chances when teams play with 10 players near the areas. We understand they are playing for their lives. I’m not criticising them. They are doing what they think is best for them and achieved one point. We knew they would play like that and we tried to prepare our team.”

And Burton boss Nigel Clough had no problem in sending his team out to do just that.

"We did everything we could to stop them and tried to be a threat but it's very difficult when (Wednesday) control the game as much as they do," he said. "They've just put five past a very good team so there was no point us coming here and playing open expansive football. We make no apologies for how we have to play."
