Striker Jordan Lonchar (3) and winger Fraser Preston registered as the Owls set up a home tie with Gillingham.The final scoreline flattered the Owls, with home goalkeeper Dan Wallis making a series of excellent stops to keep Luton, who had Harry Bean sent off, at bay. Wallis was outstanding and saved Jack Snelus' late penalty.But Wednesday's young guns, without top-scorer George Hirst, were clinical in the final third at Hillsborough.England Under-18 international Hirst, son of Owls legend David, missed out altogether, having been called up into the Owls first-team squad to ease their striker shortage. Hirst junior could be involved in their Championship clash at Reading tomorrow.Wednesday enjoyed the lion share of the possession early on but the Hatters looked dangerous on the counter attack. Freddy Hinds almost seized on a poor back pass by Owls captain Connor Kirby but the hosts defence stood firm.Moments later, Dan Wallis produced a smart stop, diving to his left to keep out Arthur Read's fierce drive after the winger latched on to Jack Snelus' clever pass.There was a big let off for Luton, who beat Dagenham in the previous round, in the 25 minute, with Jack James' header looping just over his own crossbar after Joe West fizzed in a free-kick.

Back came the Hatters after the half hour mark and Snelus saw his 25-yard shot well saved by Wallis.Wednesday continued to live dangerously as Hinds fired tamely into the side-netting following a neat header down by Jones.Against the run of play, the Owls broke the deadlock six minutes before half-time, Lonchar firing home after great work by Fraser Preston on the left.Preston then doubled Wednesday's lead, rounding off a lovely free kick routine involving Kirby and Liam Waldock. It completely caught Luton out.After the re-start, Luton piled on the pressure with Snelus thwarted by Wallis before Kavan Cotter blazed over when well-placed.Hinds continued to trouble Wednesday's defence and he volleyed over from an acute angle after a fine centre by Tyreeq Bakinson.

And the Owls punished Luton's profligacy again midway through the second period, Lonchar heading in his second after a teasing delivery by Joe West.Wallis acrobatically tipped over Snelus's 25-yard rasping drive as Luton pressed hard for a consolation.To compound Luton's woes, Bean was dismissed after collecting his second booking. The right-back was penalised for handling Preston's centre.And Lonchar sealed his hat-trick in style in the 88th minute, coolly rounding Tiernan Parker before smashing an unstoppable right foot shot into the roof of the net.There was still time for Luton to come close to snatching a late consolation but Wallis brilliantly used his legs to prevent Connor Tomlinson reducing the deficit.Wallis capped a wonderful individual performance by correctly going the right way to palm away Snelus' spot-kick.Wednesday: Wallis; Brennan, Cook, Lee, West; Kirby (Swain 89), Price (Hunt 76); Hughes (Reaney 82), Waldock, Preston, Lonchar.
