WATCH: Sheffield Wednesday fans, players and staff pay tribute to departing Glenn Loovens and Ross Wallace

Two of the club's more popular players in recent times both waved goodbye to the Owls and were given a terrific send off by their team mates, staff and the fans.

Glenn Loovens and Ross Wallace will leave Wednesday after their current contracts run out and they do so with the best wishes of everyone associated with the club.

Loovens started what would be a 5-1 victory for Wednesday, making his 150th appearance and came off just before half time in a choreographed move to allow everyone in the ground to pay tribute to the captain, who has been an immense servant to Wednesday in his four-and-a-half years at the club.

And Hillsborough rose to its feet in unison to hail an Owls hero.

Wallace is currently recovering from knee surgery so was unable to add to his 124 appearances.

At the end, though, both the Scot and Loovens received a guard of honour from their team mates and the backroom staff before the squad went on a lap of appreciation around a still-packed ground.

Loovens said afterwards: "The fans have been brilliant, they always have been. It says a lot about them, they were always behind the team, behind me they always supported me from day one so a big thanks to them as well."
