Chris Wilder made five changes to the starting line-up with an eye on two hugely important matches on the horizon - the Blades play second-placed Scunthorpe on Saturday and then take on Bolton who lie in third in League One, the following week.

And while United had their chances to take all three points, assistant manager Alan Knill admitted a point apiece was a fair reflection on the game.

“Both teams know they created chances but will probably look back on that at a decent result,” he said. “Both sets of players really went for it and dug-in when required. Looking back, I think it was a fair result.”
