The electrical blast in Printing Office Street took place outside the Jazz Cafe in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He said: “We arrived at work in the morning to start operating as a takeaway and there was mud going all the way up to the top floor and the slabs had beed lifted and debris was everywhere.

"At first we thought it was a burst water pipe. But upon entering the building, we had no power so I phoned National Grid and they went to a sub station and changed a fuse.

"We then phoned Yorkshire Water who came out and lifted up a grate to discover a electrical cable that had exploded at around 7:03 in the morning.

"National Grid said that if it had blown the other way, it would have come through the shop window. If it wasn't for the current lockdown people would of been injured thankfully the street is quieter then normal.”

Other businesses hit by the blast included photo store Max Spielmann and gaming shop Cool Spot.

Work has been carried out to repair the damage caused by the explosion.
