Having missed the majority of the season due to a knee operation and subsequent recovery, the Sheffield Wednesday forward has been making up for lost time of late and on Saturday against Reading, Forestieri had Owls fans once again wistfully wondering what might have been.

The 25 year old set Wednesday on their way to a fifth win in seven games, opening the scoring against the Royals at Hillsborough. He played a major role in the second goal, converted by George Boyd after Forestieri had raced to keep in a ball that looked like going out before playing in Adam Reach to provide the assist.

Then, in the final stages, that tremendous tenacity was evident again as he chased, tackled and harried to keep hold of the ball before letting fly with a blockbuster of a shot which flew past Reading keeper Vito Mannone.

It was a superb overall display by Forestieri, who has notched up four goals in his six appearances since coming back from injury and provided a taster of what Wednesday fans will hope to see on a consistent basis next season if he is to maintain this hunger for success.

"I think Fernando was very inspirational and very motivated for a good game," said boss Jos Luhukay. "He made the important moments, scored goals, he was dangerous and made opportunities for us. "We are happy for Fernando, but we must also look at what the team has done over the last two months."
