The Thai player also squandered a chance in December when, playing against Neil Robertson at the UK Championship, he cleared 15 reds and blacks and the colours up to the pink before pushing the black to the far jaw.

Astonishingly, just over four months on, the 30-year-old repeated the heartbreaking miss on Tuesday.

In the fourth frame against Anthony McGill at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, in the final qualifying round for the tournament at the nearby Crucible Theatre, Un-Nooh carved out a prime opportunity with the final few colours all on their spots.

He slightly over-ran his positional shot from blue to pink and then left himself low on the black, but still in position to finish the job.

He got down quickly to play it but the shot rattled out of the jaws of the pocket, Un-Nooh throwing his cue down on the table in frustration.

Fellow professional Matthew Selt, having read the news on the Pro Snooker Blog Twitter feed, responded: "SHUT UP!!!! please tell me you're joking", followed by several crying emojis.

The miss cost Un-Nooh a bonus of £8,500 plus the £1,000 high break prize for qualifying - Peter Lines' 142 against Ng On Yee still topping the standings. Un-Nooh's previous miss in York saw him miss out on a £44,000 pay day.

Amazingly, Un-Nooh went on to beat Lines' mark for the break prize as he knocked in a 144 in frame eight.

He nevertheless trailed highly-rated Scottish prospect McGill 6-3 after the first session of the best-of-19-frame match, which concludes on Wednesday.
