Waste is being recycled, say Doncaster Council

Doncaster Council has reassured the public that their waste will be disposed of in a proper manner, following concerns from residents that recyclable materials were being sent to landfill.

Paul Ridsdale, of Paxton Crescent, Armthorpe, echoed the thoughts of many people when he said: “The green box recycling is three days behind for the street, and instead of the recycling wagon all the recycling boxes are being put into a normal refuse wagon. It is an absolute disgrace.”

However, the council insisted that rubbish that could be recycled would be.

Assistant director of environment, Gill Gillies, said: “There is a backlog in collections and recycling needs to be cleared from our streets, so to do that Suez is using all available vehicles to collect it. That means that some normal refuse vehicles are collecting recycling, which is sorted at our waste transfer station in Kirk Sandall rather than at the kerbside to speed up the process. Residents can be assured that all of the material collected from green boxes will be recycled as normal.”
