Warning on roads chaos

TRADERS and shoppers face some disruption when roadworks takes place in a South Yorkshire community.

Work starts in Cudworth, Barnsley, on Monday to resurface 600 metres of the A628 Barnsley Road.

It is expected to take three weeks to complete the work between Manor Road and Roberts Street.

There will be temporary traffic signals between 9.30am and 3.30pm but to reduce disruption for shoppers and shopkeepers, resurfacing work next to the shops will be carried out on Sundays.

The council says it will be necessary to temporarily close some of the side roads for short periods while work is carried out across their junctions with Barnsley Road and diversions will be signed.

Alan Carnall, assistant director for highways and engineering, said: “I apologise for any disruption that may be caused while the work is taking place, and I would like to thank all residents and road users for their patience.”
