Police in Doncaster are urging residents to be more vigilant when it comes to home security after sneak-in burglars targeted two homes.

A culprit snatched a handbag from the kitchen worktop of a home at Belle Vue Avenue, Belle Vue, between 8.30pm and 10.30pm on February 19 after getting in through an unlocked back door.

And a handbag was taken at 7.20pm on February 18, at South Street, Hyde Park.

The woman occupant went to answer a knock at the front door, but found no-one there.

Meanwhile, the offender had got into the property through an insecure back door and stolen the bag.

Said Superintendent Eddie Murphy, of South Yorkshire Police: “We want people to be aware that just because they’re in the house, their belongings may not be safe if they leave doors open.

“Our advice is to keep doors locked and think about what items are left on show, especially with the school half-term coming up.”

Police believe the two incidents may be linked and enquiries are ongoing.
