Warning over bogus officials

Have your say

Residents in Derbyshire are being urged to be on their guard against doorstep callers claiming to be from a medical equipment company.

Bogus workers, claiming to be from Medequip, have been calling at homes offering to service medical equipment and asking for payment.

Medequip is a genuine company which provides an equipment loan service throughout Derbyshire – but never charges clients for servicing or repairs.

The company does not make unsolicited visits as everyone who receives equipment is referred because of their disability or being unfit through illness.

Coun Ellie Wilcox Derbyshire County Council deputy cabinet member for health and communities, issued a warning.

She said: “It’s shocking these people are trading on the name of a reputable and respected company – particularly one that specialises in supporting older and vulnerable people in their homes.

“I urge people to be wary of anyone calling unannounced.”
