Warning issued over sheet ice on South Yorkshire's roads

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said this morning: "Please beware of extremely difficult conditions on the roads and pavements this morning as sheet ice is making surfaces treacherous.

"Conditions are incredibly difficult. Please take extreme caution if you are out and about."

Today the Met Office is expecting a cold day with sunny spells and scattered wintry showers.

Frost will linger over higher ground with snow showers giving fresh accumulations, especially on the Pennines.

A widespread frost will form during the evening and overnight as temperatures drop to -4C.
