Tradesmen in North Derbyshire are being urged to secure their vans following a spate of vehicle break-ins and thefts.
The warning for Chesterfield and North-East Derbyshire comes after reports over the last few weeks of works vehicles being targeted on business sites and homes across the area, with valuable tools and equipment stolen.
Community Safety Insp Russ Dakin said: “Thieves are ready to strike and seize their chance when they notice someone has left a vehicle unattended or it is unlocked or not properly secured. I would urge local tradespeople to consider stepping up their vehicle security in a bid to clamp down on this type of crime.”
Suspicious activity should be reported by calling 101.
