Warning to fly-tippers as man fined for dumping

Rotherham Council has vowed to do '˜everything in our power' to prosecute fly-tippers after a man was fined for dumping rubbish.

Maurice Battye, of Thornberry Road, Wakefield, dumped items including a large cardboard box and broken timber and metal bench outside the household waste recycling centre, which was shut.

Battye pleaded guilty at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court and was ordered to pay a fine of £80, £90 costs and a £20 victim surcharge

Rotherham Council’s Coun Kath Sims said: “We will not tolerate fly-tipping. The vast majority of people in Rotherham are rightly concerned about this unsightly and anti-social crime.

“This court case shows we will do everything in our power to investigate and track down the people responsible for illegally dumping rubbish.”
