HERO South Yorkshire medics who have spent the last four months in Afghanistan are heading home.

Members of Sheffield-based 212 Field Hospital Regiment of the Territorial Army were today due to catch a flight out of Helmand Province and will return to the UK after a short break in Cyprus.

The medics, who include NHS doctors and nurses from hospitals such as the Royal Hallamshire, Northern General and Doncaster Royal Infirmary, ran the British field hospital at Camp Bastion where they treated wounded soldiers, civilians, children and even Taliban fighters.
