War veterans petition PM

Have your say

FORMER service personnel have presented a 300,000-signature petition to 10, Downing Street as part of their campaign for veterans to receive equal pension rights as those in the military today.

Campaign group Equality for Veterans Association, which has members in South Yorkshire, wants a change in the current rules. At present, veterans who served after April 1975 receive pensions according to their service over a minimum of two years, whereas those who served between 1949 and March 1975 receive nothing unless they spent 22 years in the forces.

A spokesman for the campaign said: “The Government has a duty to its veterans.”
