War hero to open new £1.4m operating theatre in Chesterfield

Falklands War veteran Simon Weston has been invited to open a new operating theatre in Barlborough.

He is to open the new £1.4 million theatre at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre on Tuesday, March 8.

The theatre will allow more orthopaedic procedures such as joint replacements to be carried out.

And it is hoped that look other specialities may be introduced in the near future.

Hospital Director Steve Booker said: “Several of the team have been lucky enough to hear Simon give talks and they have been very moved by his inspirational stories and his positive outlook.

“He is a committed supporter of the country’s health services. We believe patients throughout Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire will be able to benefit from the state-of-the-art theatre, which will help reduce NHS waiting lists.”
