Around 240 people took part in the 5k run at Tickhill Cricket Club including war hero Ben Parkinson, who also started the dash and who organisers called the ‘real’ Father Christmas.

Fundraising organiser, Richard Clarke, said: “The 5k fun run took part with everyone dressed as Santa with their white beards billowing in the strong winds.

“More than £5,000 was raised through registration and sponsorship. Teams included those from the general public and local businesses, Irwin Mitchell from Sheffield, ProAktive from Doncaster and AESSeal from Rotherham.

The funds raised will support local children living with complex needs and disabilities.”

Richard added: “We were delighted that Ben Parkinson attended on the day as our official run starter. The event raised more than £5,000, which is brilliant for our first Santa Dash in Yorkshire.”

Children being helped by Brainwave and their parents also attended on the day.

Richard said: “People are already asking about next year, and we do plan to repeat the event.”

Brainwave provides a range of therapies and spends time with each child to ensure they have the greatest hope of improvement.
