Walters sets up Barnsley win as Rotherham stay bottom of table

Sheffield Collegiate's good start to the All Rounder Yorkshire South Premier League season continued with victory against Appleby Frodingham on Saturday.

Opening batsmen Eliot Callis and Daniel Walton combined well to score 47 and 42 respectively as Collegiate smashed their way to 212.

Appleby never looked like catching up with Paul Hilton taking three wickets for 46 and John Heath4-49. They could only muster 160 runs, leaving Collegiate to win by 52 runs to go third in the table.

Sheffield and Phoenix United are fifth after beating Aston Hall by one wicket. Adam Whiteley hit 58 for Aston but that was as good as it got with Andrew Judge taking three wickets in their 172.

United struggled but Danial Rafiq’s knock of 34 early on helped the cause. Bilal Anjam’s 41 and Azeem Rafiq’s 40 saw them home on173 -9.

Rotherham Town remain bottom of the league without a win after losing to Barnsley by 39 runs.

Stephen Walters did most of the damage for Barnsley, scoring 58 runsin their 176.

Rotherham were all out for 137 as Barnsley’s Oliver Jackson took 4-28. Daniel Waldron also chipped in with a three-wicket haul.

Doncaster Town are second from bottom after a three-wicket defeat to Whitley Hall. Town looked to be heading for a good total after James Ward hit 65 but their challenge faded as Liam Bacon took three wickets and they reached 187.

James Moorhouse opened with 58 for Whitley Hall and partner Matthew Milburn scored 42 as they chased the target down with ease.

Treeton were easily dispatched by Wickersley Old Village. Lewis Brown took 7-54 as Treeton were all out for 90.

Wickersley replied 95 with just four wickets gone.

Wakefield Thornes won the other game of the day, beating Cleethorpes by 160 runs.
