Walker airlifted to Sheffield hospital after fall from height in windy weather

A walker was airlifted to hospital in Sheffield after a fall from a height during windy weather.

The man was walking near Dovestone Reservoir, Saddleworth Moor, when he fell from a crag known as the Trinnacle.

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team volunteers were deployed after being alerted to the fall by North West Ambulance Service.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also informed of the incident and crew members who were first on the scene assessed the casualty as being in a very serious condition.

Mountain rescue team members assisted in the treatment of the casualty on the ground and preparation of helicopter winching and landing sites.

He was airlifted to the Northern General Hospital for specialist care.

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team said: “We would urge people to take extra care when walking near steep ground and crag tops, especially when it is very windy.
