Wainwright takes five wickets as De La Salle climb into the Yorkshire and Derbyshire League's second spot

Late afternoon downpours cut a swathe through the Yorkshire and Derbyshire League fixtures, with only 2 Division One games being completed.

However, both produced significant results. Leaders Parkhead were all out for 150 (C Turner 43) and Hundall were delighted to pass this with 5 wickets in hand (L Braddock 56, J Weston 41*).

De La Salle blew away Totley Bent for 81 (S Wainwright 5-36, J O’Sullivan 4-1) and with Kieren O’Sullivan smacking 63 not out, the Sallians beat the rain to win by 7 wickets and move up to second.

They are a couple of points behind Hollinsend Meths, who made 196-7 against Hallam III, who were 188-9 with plenty of overs left when the rain stopped a thrilling climax.

Hathersage stroked their way a formidable 227-8 (P Ali 57 S Askew 40), but the weather prevented any reply from Ashford in the Water. Stocksbridge struggled to 121 all out (S Khan 5-37, C Lenoir 4-43) and with Sheffield Centralians on 58-1 and firmly in control, sadly the heavens opened.

In Division Two, Sheffield Collegiate IV scored 142-6, and Sheffield Civil Service, after last week’s blip, returned to winning ways by 3 wickets. the Service remain 4 points ahead of Sheffield University Staff, who held struggling Grindleford to 90-8, then secured the win by 5 wickets.

Sheffield Medics were dismissed for 147 (R Ivaturi 57, J Hill 4-3, C Baker 4-11).

In reply Hollinsend Meths II were bowled out for 108. Bottom team Parkhead II made 127-7, Bakewell easing to the target by 7 wickets. Telecom Sports were 156 all out against Norton Woodseats II, but the match was abandoned at tea due to the rain.

Runaway Division Three leaders Sheffield Transport made short work of De La Salle, who were dismantled for just 45 runs. Transport losing just a single wicket in their march on to promotion.

Chesterfield III racked up an imposing 239-9 (B Jenkins 80 J Grant 79). However, second placed Hallam IV stormed to the target in just 33 overs, losing only 3 wickets along the way (J Ferguson 70, R Frost 85*, G Burch 47).

Richmond were even more impressive with the bat, hitting 253-2 with skipper Craig Turner making a magnificent 138 not out (M Rose 56).

But with Stocksbridge II on 187-5 and opener Elliott Freeman on 101 not out, time ran out and match abandoned as a draw (Newton 41).

Whittington Wanderers were sent back for 88 all out (R Dewsbury 4-12) and had Ridgeway in all sorts of trouble on 21-7 (J Emmett 5-7), but the afternoon deluge saved Ridgeway from almost certain defeat.

Youlgrave Lodge scored 152-6 (P Williams 47) and dismissed Hathersage II for 84 (A Abbott 4-27).

Sheffield Centralians II continue to head up Division Four.

Visitors Sheffield Superkings made a competent 168-9 at the Olive Grove but the leaders still obtained a two-wicket win.

Moving into second are Sheffield University Staff II. They piled up 203-7 on the road at Walkley. The home side reached 38-0 when a downpour forced the abandonment.

Chesterfield Barbarians II posted 180-8 (B Carley 46 S Cadywould 47 S Vessey 5-40) in their local derby against Whittington Wanderers II.

The Wanderers replied with a very creditable 160. Sheffield Civil Service II amassed a useful 179-7 as visitors Coal Aston III fell just short at 158-6.

Baslow are the new leaders of Division Five. They hit an impressive 258-5 thanks to an unbeaten century from Charlie Knowles, 61 from Oliver Knowles and 47 not out from Jack Madin.

Just three points behind are Hundall II. Paul Gibson scored 56 in their 197-4. Sheffield Transport were 90-7 before time and the weather beat the two sides.

Hallam V kept up their challenge with 191 all out, Jon Maiden top scoring with 57. Telecom Sports II closed at 152-9 in reply. Sheffield Collegiate V bludgeoned their way to 232-7 with Arun Rupra posting 106 (Isaac Mullins 5-32).

Hollinsend Meths III were 28 without loss when the game was abandoned.
