Wages officials visit Sheffield

Three Low Pay Commissioners will visit Sheffield as part of an assessment of the national minimum wage.

Professor Bob Elliott, John Hannett and Professor Steve Machin are in the city on Friday, when they will hear first hand what impact the national minimum wage of £6.19 an hour is having on businesses and workers.

Low Pay Commissioner John Hannett said: “Hearing directly from those affected by the national minimum wage informs our recommendations to the Government.”

Calls are being made to increase the minimum wage to a ‘living wage’ of at least £7.20 an hour to cut poverty.
