Vulnerable to be protected

A NEW scheme has been launched in Rotherham to protect elderly and vulnerable adults from financial abuse.

The scheme – called Safeguarding More Than Just Your Money – has been set up by the council and is being backed by some of the town’s banks and building societies.

Among those taking part are the Yorkshire Bank, Santander and the Barnsley Building Society.

The aim is to prevent third parties taking advantage of vulnerable customers and trying to access their money.

The scheme also hopes to prevent the withholding of money or the inappropriate or unsanctioned use of a person’s money or property.

The project also aims to stop vulnerable adults being entered into disadvantageous financial contracts or transactions they do not understand.
