Climbers are gearing up to scale Sheffield’s only professional-level climbing boulder which is free to use in a public space.
But more volunteers are needed to help run events on the Sheaf boulder, part of a set of climbing facilities in Heeley Millennium Park.
A special Heeley Hang bouldering session is set to kick-start Heeley Development Trust’s bouldering session and introduce people to the pastime.
Bev Nunn, events and involvement organiser, said: “We are a small and committed team and welcome friendly volunteers with an interest, knowledge and practical skills in bouldering to assist with the smooth running of the event, as well as offering support and advice to new climbers.
“This is a great opportunity to be part of developing Heeley Hang.
“Ongoing roles for volunteers could include helping with marketing, running sessions, fundraising and administration. Training and skills development are also offered.”
The park has two large artificial boulders, plus smaller ones and stepping stones for all ages and abilities.
It has also been developed to include bike and nature trails, new playground equipment plus a community orchard and art.
Everyone is welcome to the Heeley Hang event on Saturday, March 23, from noon to 3pm. Climbing shoes will be available to borrow.
