Volunteers create school jungle

Have your say

NICK Clegg can’t have had many more unusual tasks as part of his constituency duties than opening a stairwell.

But it wasn’t any old flight of steps...

The stair walls at Lydgate Infant School have been transformed with colourful artwork created by a Sheffield children’s illustrator and volunteers.

The Deputy PM was invited to unveil the ‘jungle’ and ‘sea’ themed murals by Lydia Monks, after the illustrator found out the Sheffield MP had purchased one of her books for his children.

Lydia said: “Over the last two years, a dedicated team of volunteers including staff and parents have been working over many Friday nights and weekends to create the mural.

“After finally finishing it was lovely to mark the occasion with a visit from our local MP Nick Clegg.”

Mr Clegg said: “I was delighted to be invited to officially unveil the school’s new murals. I am immensely impressed volunteers have come together to create these fantastic pieces of art.”
