An off-duty mountain rescue team volunteer walking across the top of Mam Tor helped rescue a stuck climber.

A Buxton Mountain Rescue Team spokesman said: “The gully looks easy from the bottom but near to the top becomes a vertical loose shale face, catching out many an unwary climber in the past.

“We are very pleased to have assisted the climber to safety.”

The team also helped a walker who fell ill and collapsed on the same day - Sunday - while on a riverside footpath in Monsal Dale.
