TWO youths were each issued with £80 fines for misbehaving and swearing outside Barnsley Interchange in the town centre. Sgt Keith Baird said: “It was an expensive outburst.”

Police in Barnsley are joining forces with organisation Voluntary Action to look for projects for young people to get involved with to avoid turning to lives of crime. Insp Julie Mitchell, from the town centre Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “It’s a long term strategy, but got to be worth the effort to reduce crime.”
