Visit means business for new Caribbean eatery in Sheffield

Actor and comedian Richard Blackwood was joined by barbecue sauce entrepreneur Levi Roots at the launch of a new restaurant bringing Caribbean flavours to Sheffield.

King Lounge, on Abbeydale Road, is run by a relative of Richard’s, while Levi extolled the virtues of Jamaican cuisine.

“You don’t have to go too far outside your house to find a Caribbean restaurant now – it wasn’t like that back in the day,” said Levi, the businessman behind the successful Reggae Reggae Sauce.

He said Sheffield had ‘played a big part’ in his life through his earlier music career, while EastEnders actor Richard said he was familiar with the city through the stand-up circuit. Businesses like King Lounge were ‘very important’, Richard added.

“Black people are disenfranchised, so when we decide to move forward I’m a big supporter of that.”
