Tory leader Dave Cameron and his Chancellor, George Osborne, must be having a laugh. Why?
They slap 2.5% on a litre of fuel (petrol and diesel) via VAT then tell us with a straight face that they are knocking 1p a litre off.
They must be joking or they think the electorate are like them, bonkers.
No doubt, the ‘blue rinse’ brigade will think this 1p ‘giveaway’ is fantastic.

As a member of the last Conservative government, involved in planning development corporation policies, which went on to regenerate deprived areas of our region, I welcome the Enterprise Zones announced, which include Sheffield and Leeds.
However we need fast-track planning procedures if we are to maximise their effect. I hope the Government will be able to achieve this.
In the last 15 years many of the former Labour government schemes have concentrated on giving financial support either to ill-thought out projects or those which produced little long term extra employment.
It will be important to ensure that these Enterprise Zones deliver real potential for growth and job creation.
Timothy Kirkhope, MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber
In the budget, the Government went on and on about the 1p off petrol, but made no reference to the new kick in the teeth for the elderly.
They have reduced the winter fuel allowance for 80-year-olds by £100, from £400 to £300 and for the over 60s by £50 from £250 to £200, hitting the most vunerable again.
I am sure they’ll blame this on somebody else. That’s what they do.
But it is this government that has implemented it.
