Video: YET ANOTHER Sheffield Wednesday player suffers injury setback and has season ended

Central defender Joost van Aken was expected to make a return before the end of the amplify having been out since the New Year with a hamstring injury.

However, the Dutchman has now injured his ankle and will undergo an operation later this month.

”I was also positive (about a return for van Aken) but he saw a doctor in Portugal and it was not a positive analysis for us,” said Luhukay.

“On 19th of April he will have surgery on his ankle, he will be out for a long time and Joost will not play this season.

“We must only hope and of course for Joost himself, that maybe - and that is a question - that he can start in the new pre-season.”

Luhukay also confirmed, as believed on Monday after the match against Sunderland, that Morgan Fox will also be out inured for the remainder of this campaign.

In better news ahead of Wednesday’s visit of in-form Fulham on Saturday, Daniel Pudil, who missed that game at the Stadium of Light, is fit to take Fox’s place.

The injury concerns didn’t stop at van Aken, though.

Keiren Westwood has suffered a setback, having returned to training and was due to have a scan today to find out the extent of his latest injury.

The Owls keeper hasn’t played since December.
