Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Boyd is banking on a blistering finish to last season leading to a flying start to the Owls' next campaign.

Jos Luhukay's side won six and drew two of their final 10 Championship matches in 2017/18 and Boyd is eyeing more of the same when they return to action next month.

"We've had a meeting already about how good our form was at the end of last season," the 32-year-old said at Sunday's Owls in the Park event. "If we can take that into the new season, it will be a fantastic start.

"We weren't giving teams chances, we looked solid as a defensive unit and, by the end, we were scoring a lot of goals."

The Owls are training in the North-west this week but will be back at their Middlewood base after the weekend ahead of their first pre-season friendly, at League Two Lincoln City on Friday July 13.

Wednesday, who signed off last term with a 5-1 win home win over Norwich City, are at Wigan Athletic on August 4 opening day.
