The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind today, with gusts expected to reach 60mph.
The strong winds are forecast to last the majority of the day, accompanied by squally showers.
A Met Office spokesman warned: “The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to transport and possibly power supplies.”
Northern Powergrid, the company responsible for running the electricity network across Yorkshire, has assured its customers that it’s prepared should the weather affect its network following the warnings of severe weather.
A spokesman said: “Northern Powergrid is closely monitoring the weather and has extra engineers prepared to restore power and repair any damage to power lines.”
Temperatures are set to get colder on Friday and going into the weekend, when there could be the risk of a light snow covering.
Icy conditions are also expected with temperatures set to drop to minus three degrees overnight on Saturday, and as low as minus five degrees overnight on Sunday.
