VIDEO: 'We need to be better to make the play-offs' Chris Wilder warns his Sheffield United side

United's run of indifferent form extended to one win in ten games last night when they dominated possession against city rivals Wednesday at Bramall Lane, but couldn't find the breakthrough and were forced to settle for a point from the 0-0 draw.

It was enough to put United back in the top-six, at least until the rest of the teams in the Championship kick off this afternoon, but Wilder admitted: "I don't want to be sat on the beach at the end of the season after finishing eighth, ninth or tenth and everyone saying it was a fantastic season, while I'm watching teams in the play-offs and getting promoted and thinking 'really, we should be in there'.

"There's still a long way to go and a lot to play for, but I don't want hard luck stories and anyone thinking we're unlucky. We need to be better."

Clayton Donaldson had United's best chance of an underwhelming derby, his header well saved by Joe Wildsmith, while Simon Moore had to be at his best to keep out Adam Reach's volley at the death.

“We’ve played some decent stuff, but I want us to play some decent stuff and win," Wilder added.

"We just have to keep going and work on stuff during the week and just the players to show that extra bit of quality. “We’ve done ever so well but I don’t want us to get to the end of the season and miss out. We’re fighting, we’re in there and we want to do better.

"We’ve come a long way in a short space of time, but I want more. I want the players to believe that we’re good enough to compete at the top of the division. Those key moments, those big moments that separate and win games of football - we've not shown enough of them over the last month to six weeks."
