Experience dizzying heights with the 220ft-high Starflyer, which spins people around on swings – and is the highest carousel ride in the UK.

The Starflyer is the latest addition to the city’s skyline and will be in place at the top of Fargate until June.

The ride, which lights up at night, will run rain or shine – but controllers will adjust the speed according to wind levels.

During the three months the ride is in operation, it will be open seven days a week between 10am and 11pm.

The Starflyer was first set up in Liverpool in 2010 and has since been an attraction in London and Manchester.

It is more than twice the size of a similar 100ft carousel ride that was set up in Leeds last winter.

The ride has seats for 24 people, with trips lasting around four minutes.

It is taller than the 61-metre Town Hall and the 60-metre spire of the Cathedral Church of St Marie.

An adult ticket costs £6 and children’s tickets are £4. Online bookings get a 10 per cent discount.

The minimum age to ride is six years and there is a height restriction of 1.2m. Children under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult.

Visitors to the attraction are also advised to wrap up warm - it’s cold up there.
