A sick spectator was heard shouting “jump” at a man threatening to throw himself off St George’s Bridge this afternoon.
A man ran up to a nearby barrier and shouted “Jump” as police desperately tried to talk him down.
Several passers by were also heard saying “fall off” and “If you’re going to jump, just jump.”
Police managed to talk the man down from the edge of the bridge and in to a waiting ambulance.
Three police cars and an ambulance were seen on the town centre bridge after receiving reports expressing concerns for a man’s welfare.
The man was coaxed down around 1.45pm.
