The Owls kick off their Championship campaign at Wigan Athletic on Saturday, having already sold right-back Jack Hunt to Bristol City for Â£1.6 million and allowed striker Jordan Rhodes to join Norwich City on a season-long loan.

Luhukay can't guarantee that his squad will remain intact ahead of the DW Stadium showdown.

When asked after last Saturday's 3-1 friendly defeat at home to Spanish side Villarreal if Wednesday would be shedding more players, the manager said: "We never know that. It is difficult to give an answer to that. In football, every day is a new day.

"Maybe something can happen. The transfer window is always a problem when it runs later than the start of the season."

Goalkeeper Keiren Westwood is attracting interest from Stoke City who expect to lose their No 1, Jack Butland, before the deadline for permanent signings a week on Thursday (August 9).

Hillsborough arrivals are unlikely amid speculation that the Owls are under a transfer embargo related to Financial Fair Play regulations.

Meanwhile, Luhukay has decided who will wear the captain's armband next season.

He plans to talk to the player this week before an announcement is made.

Centre-half Tom Lees is favourite for the role, having done the job in the past when regular skipper and fellow central defender Glenn Loovens, now at Sunderland, wasn't playing.

"Yes, he (the captain) is in my head," Luhukay said. "In the next days I will speak with him. There have been a few candidates. At the end of the day, all the team must take some responsibility."

Lees has led the side in Wednesday's most recent public pre-season friendlies, against Mansfield Town and Villarreal.
