Sheffield United's 2-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers at Bramall Lane this afternoon was a display of real 'purpose and conviction', according to The Star's Blades man James Shield.

Billy Sharp's brace, with one from the penalty spot, saw United open up a seven-point gap at the top of League One ahead of Saturday's trip to Rochdale.

And James said: "Fittingly, after all the talk in the week about Gary Madine's videoed comments about him, it was Billy who scored both goals in a thoroughly deserved win.

"But Bolton did look a good side and caused a few problems, the volume of balls coming into Simon Moore's penalty box causing some concern.

"But by then, United had already taken the lead and if there's one player you want in that position, bearing down on goal after good work by John Fleck and Mark Duffy, it's United's captain.

"It wasn't just the win that impressed but the performance and manner of it. It was a real display of purpose and conviction."
