The defenceman saw Steelers from close quarters last weekend, when he twice played against them with his new club Fife Flyers.

He told The Star: “They are a pretty solid team all round, they have always had good depth with four lines, which proved to be a positive, they had a little more jump than we did. I think they’ve got a quality team and am sure they will be the frontrunners in the League again.

“Hopefully in the coming months we will be nipping at their heels for the championship.”

Moyer said it was nice for the club to allow him to witness last Saturday’s banner-raising. “It was a classy move, I appreciated that.”

After the banner wearing, though, he was “wearing white and blue, not orange.

“I am proud to be a Fife Flyer am happy for my time in Sheffield obviously but that was last year and this is this year.

“It is definitely a year I will always look back on and enjoy, and the accomplishment with the 20 guys we had in the room.”

* Former Steeldogs boss and Scimitars goalie Matt Darlow has been replaced as coach at Blackburn Hawks.

The man taking over duties is Steve Duncombe, the former Steeler and Dogs defenceman.

Darlow was only appointed in May at the club, who play in the NIHL. Then, the club said they were “over the moon” with their choice.

This week, their website reported: “Hawks have parted ways with Matt Darlow.

“They would like to thank him for his hard work during his short time with the club, and wish him all success in the future. This decision was not taken lightly but deemed in the best interests of the club going forward.”

In 2011 Darlow was replaced at Dogs, after poor results.

Darlow said on Facebook that he was humbled “by the hundreds of messages from loved ones, fans, players, coaches and management from around the world. Emotions are extremely raw right now.”
